The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (to be known as the World Design Organization, effective 1 January 2017) is pleased to announce that the City of Torino, Italy, will host the organization’s 30th General Assembly and World Design Talks, to take place in October 2017.
Torino and Icsid have a longstanding relationship as the city became the first ever World Design Capital® (WDC) in 2008. The WDC designation gave Torino an opportunity to shape itself as a prominent city of design, communicating the importance for modern cities to use design as a tool to respond to urban challenges. During the WDC Torino 2008 year, over 340 initiatives were held, including exhibitions, conferences, workshops, design activities, congresses, and fairs. Today, the legacy of Torino’s World Design Capital designation lives on through the Circolo del Design, a permanent centre for the promotion of design.
Icsid’s General Assembly (GA) is held biennially, bringing together the organization’s leadership, membership and external stakeholders to discuss the progress of the closing two-year term and prepare for the incoming term’s activities.
The GA is the organizations’ highest authority with decisions taken exclusively by members – i.e.: corporate, educational, professional and promotional members. It addresses key issues affecting the industry, guides the future of the organization by electing new leadership, aligns the direction of the organization with the interests of both the membership and the wider international industrial design community, and sparks dialogue about the power of design to create a better world through the World Design Talks.
We hope that you will be able to join us in Torino, Italy, for what promises to be an exhilarating General Assembly, World Design Talks, and 60th Anniversary celebration, which will also mark the organization’s first as the newly minted World Design Organization.
More details concerning the exact dates and venue of the 30th General Assembly will be revealed in the coming weeks.
