As Argentina’s first Interdesign workshop, the focus was on the design of the El Dorrego building as a center for cultural and commercial events related to the design industry. The El Dorrego project was created to offer a space to young designers and entrepreneurs who wished to enter the market, but did not have the financial capacity to do so.

The workshop aimed to explore innovative solutions for the implementation of a program to give value to this building, integrally devoted to assisting new businesses started by designers and creators in the cultural industry. As the goal was to enrich the El Dorrego experience through use of graphic images, equipment, signals, promotional products, environment, and urban surroundings, various projects were considered.

Ultimately, El Dorrego was to be transformed into a space of belonging for the new generations of designers and consumers, and encourages the development of new businesses.

Topic

In the first Interdesign Workshop carried out in Argentina, the specific topic worked on the design experience of the El Dorrego building as a center for cultural and commercial events related to the design industry. The El Dorrego project was created to offer a space to young designers and entrepreneurs who wish to enter the market, but do not have the financial capacity to afford the investment in production and outlets. Design fairs are regularly are organized there for micro producers, who can take participate at no cost.

The workshop explored innovative solutions for the implementation of a program that would give value to this building, integrally devoted to assisting new businesses started by designers and creators in the cultural industry. Thus, was propose the analysis and work of projects to enrich the El Dorrego experience – graphic image, equipment, signals, promotional products, environment, etc. – taking into account not just the interior space of the building, but also its urban surroundings. The central objective was to transform El Dorrego into a space of belonging for the new generation of designers and consumers – a hybrid environment that balances the development of new businesses with the development of the popular culture associated to young people.

Workshop methodology

This edition of Interdesign Workshop was carried out during two weeks of intensive work, where there were theoretical speeches with group discussions and work sessions for project works. It took place between July 17 and 28, 2006 at the Agrarian Sciences School in the Universidad Católica Argentina.

The language of the workshop was in Spanish.

Participants were also provided with a complete scholarship for the Conference called CMD 06 / Design and Retail International Meeting, which took place on July 14 and 15, 2006 at La Rural.

The was targeted to professional and advanced students in all design careers, both local and foreigners with the final aim of building a tale through the convergence of specialties and work in interdisciplinary teams.
