2019-2021 WDO Board Member

Makiko Tsumura
Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP)
Promotional Member

Over 10 years, I have dedicated myself to develop or form collaboration of the design evaluation and promotion system with industrially emerging countries, such as Thailand, India, Singapore Turkey and Indonesia, sharing the knowledge of organizing and the philosophy of Good Design Award (G Mark).
The screening policy and viewpoints of G Mark have been how DESIGN could do to realize the better world and solve the social issues. Japan is one of the country achieved the industrial and economic growth by design. However, nowadays, confronts the issues on the next phase such as sustainability of the rural cities, aged society,

etc. and we are finding the solutions by DESIGN with G Mark scheme. If I could be the director of WDO board, it is the first representative from promotional member of Japan.

With its discerning view for design, I would like to forward the value of WDO to Asian countries, as well as Japan. And by inviting the WDO members as a jury of G Mark, I would like to share its sense of value and ideas for the solutions.

Furthermore, World Exposition will be held in 2025 in Osaka, Japan. Its theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” and one of the objective is to realize a society that achieves the SDGs. To make the most of this opportunity, I will buckle myself down to raise the presence of DESIGN and WDO for the achievement.
