SUMMARY:Design@Large: Design to Action – Building Innovation and Impact
DESCRIPTION:Design@Large: Design to Action is a six-part public series from the UC San Diego Design Lab exploring how design moves ideas into real-world impact. Through conversations and hands-on sessions\, the series examines how teams set direction\, build momentum\, and sustain meaningful work across sectors. Each session highlights the practical decisions\, relationships\, and practices that help innovation take root and endure. \n\nAcross six Wednesdays\, we will explore how design shows up in real contexts. How early ideas find direction. How momentum is built with partners and communities. And how meaningful work becomes embedded in systems that endure. \nDesign@Large brings together students\, researchers\, civic partners\, business leaders\, and community practitioners to look closely at the real work behind innovation. Not just the outcomes\, but the decisions\, relationships\, and practices that make impact possible. \n\n\nRegister: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/designlarge-design-to-action-tickets-1825948112959\n\n\nWDO Member: The DesignLab\, UC San Diego

SUMMARY:Landscapes in Craft Workshop: The Reimagination of Chinese Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Ma Yansong\, one of China’s most influential architects\, founder and principal partner of MAD Architects (MAD)\, offers a glimpse into the future of urban civilization with designs that artistically entwine natural and urban spaces\, proffering a vision that rejects the notion of buildings as static structures and instead projects them as organic and vivid art forms\, built for human flourishing. \nInspired by Ma Yansong’s approach to landscaping and architecture\, HKDI Gallery is hosting a workshop that will explore how natural landscapes become subsumed into our day-to-day lives. Led by Margaret Chu\, a local sculptor and painter whose works explore the relationship between humans and urban life\, this workshop welcomes attendees to handcraft beautiful everyday accessories that embody the aesthetics and motions of the natural world. \nParticipants are invited to embark on a journey of discovery and uncover their capabilities for pioneering design\, all while crafting a keepsake that beautifully captures the spirit of Ma Yansong’s work. \nWDO Member: Hong Kong Design Institute
