Montreal (Canada) – The Icsid Executive Board has provisionally approved eight membership applications from Europe, Asia, North America and Oceania. The board was pleased to see such a diversity of regions and pillars in these new membership, as well as organisations whose focus mirrors Icsid’s vision of creating a world where design enhances our social, cultural, economic and environmental quality of life.

The Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (Educational) was founded in 1964 and has taken on the mission of providing higher education based on interdisciplinary design teaching and assessment, offering a programme that is recognised for excellence in the National Council of Science and Technology and seeks to contribute to the resolution of social, local and global problems.

Beijing Gewuer Science and Technology Co. Ltd. (Corporate), provides professional industrial design services with a focus on creating total solutions. Clients run the gamut from research universities to large public corporations, all of who have benefited from improved product strength and innovation.

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (Educational) created an industrial design programme in 1991. It focuses on training students in the Philippines in all areas of product design so they are equipped with technical skills in drafting, designing (both manually and computer assisted) as well as in marketing and management so that they may become skilled and innovative designers.

Eczacıbaşı Building Products Company / VitrA (Corporate) began in 1942 as an eight-man team working to supply Turkey with a variety of earthenware products that could not be imported during the Second World War. The brand name VitrA was adopted in 1966 and the company has continued to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and to bringing unique Turkish ceramic and bathing culture to the world.

IDEA School (Alliance Science et Business) (Educational) is a unique programme created and supported by two French schools to provide innovative training based on design thinking. Their mission is to train students, while receiving a masters’ degree, to become state-of-the-art managers through a concept called ‘learning-by-doing’.

Shenzhen Design Union (Promotional) is one of China’s first industrial design associations. It is now a joint design industry association that consists of relevant enterprises, public institutions and individuals all united in promoting the progress and development of innovation and design in Shenzhen.

Strate School of Design (Educational) was started in France in 1993 from a vision that design will be a strategic lever for the sustainable development of human societies. Since its beginnings the school has grown to include over 500 students and now resides at a newly designed campus in order to meets its ambitions of contributing to the training of passionate professionals.

Tiller Design Pty Ltd. (Corporate) is a leading design consultancy in Australia that has a unique approach to projects that looks at the whole commercialisation process, concentrating on all aspects of product design from concept to launch. The design team has worked with diverse enterprises and cultures and continues to expand its global reach in order to create a larger network of design conversations.

New provisional members enjoy the same benefits as ratified members but may not vote, nominate for the executive board, or be nominated until the upcoming general assembly officially approves their membership.
