Montreal (Canada) – The executive board convened for its second meeting of the term in Montreal (Canada), in January. During the meeting the board identified priorities for the term and discussed how to guide the organisation both in line with its vision and mission and the needs and aspirations of its members.
Icsid’s membership comprises educational, governmental, promotional and professional organisations and associations, and design-focused corporations, from over 50 countries. Member organisations are united in their desire to advance the profession of industrial design and create a world where design enhances social, cultural, economic and environmental quality of life. Through participation, guidance and financial support, members empower the executive board to lead Icsid’s portfolio of projects as a channel to achieve their common goals.
At its meeting, the executive board admitted the following organisations to membership:
Corporate
Lumium (United States)
With operations in both the United States and India, Lumium is a creative consulting firm with experience in multiple industries, from healthcare to consumer electronics. The company joins Icsid to expand its international network within the design industry and build greater connections and collaborations with likeminded companies and organisations.
Rosenthal (Germany)
Originally founded in 1879, Rosenthal is a pioneering company in the areas of art and design. Through membership in Icsid, the company intends to generate interesting and new contacts within the international industrial design community, cooperate in the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 project and identify opportunities for participation in Icsid’s other activities.
IDESO (South Africa)
Product design consultancy IDESO has for over 12 years helped its clients create over 300 products. The company joins Icsid as the second corporate member from South Africa to gain international exposure.
Educational
National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan, Chinese Taipei)
National Taiwan University of Science and Technology – Taiwan Tech – was founded in 1974 as the first technological university in Taiwan and has been rated among the top five Taiwanese universities. The university already sisters with more than 200 other international educational institutions and joins Icsid to advance its industrial design programme by building connections with internationally acclaimed industrial designers and researchers and attract more foreign students.
