SUMMARY:Hella Jongerius: Whispering Things
DESCRIPTION:Hella Jongerius is among the most influential designers of the past decades. Since the start of her career in the 1990s\, she has created groundbreaking works in many different disciplines\, including textiles\, ceramics\, furniture\, lighting\, and sculpture. Jongerius’ research-driven approach has been a defining influence for an entire generation of young contemporary designers. The exhibition is the first retrospective of Jongerius’ oeuvre and will explore all phases of her work\, including her famed collaborations with Maharam\, KLM\, Camper and Vitra. It is based on Jongerius’ studio archive\, acquired by the Vitra Design Museum in 2024. The centre stage\, though\, goes to the methods of JongeriusLab – layering ideas\, drawing connections\, emphasising materiality\, exposing process\, and researching deeply\, with a dedication to craft\, colour\, and cosmic thinking. The exhibition is accompanied by a major publication\, including a documentation of the Jongerius archive at the Vitra Design Museum. \nThe exhibition is supported by Global Sponsor Maharam\, Sponsor Camper\, and the IKEA Stiftung. \nLearn more: https://www.design-museum.de/en/exhibitions/preview.html \nImage: Hella Jongerius in her studio\, 2023 © Vitra Design Museum\, photo: Roel van Tour

SUMMARY:The Shakers: A World in the Making
DESCRIPTION:In summer 2025\, the Vitra Design Museum will present a major exhibition exploring the American Shaker community and their unique design culture. Established in the eighteenth century\, the Shakers were a free church community that embraced social equality\, communal property\, and pacifism\, viewing labour and design as crucial expressions of their faith. The Shakers’ radically simple\, functional objects have had a profound influence on modern design\, inspiring generations of artists\, architects\, and designers up to the present day. The exhibition will showcase a wide range of Shaker furniture\, architecture\, tools\, and commercial goods\, drawn primarly from Shaker Museum\, Chatham (USA). Works by contemporary artists and designers enter into dialogue with the historic exhibits\, reflecting on the Shakers’ enduring relevance. \nAn exhibition organised by the Vitra Design Museum\, the Milwaukee Art Museum\, the Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia\, and the Wüstenrot Foundation. \nIn collaboration with Shaker Museum

SUMMARY:Nike: Form Follows Motion
DESCRIPTION:With »Nike: Form Follows Motion« the Vitra Design Museum will present the first ever museum exhibition about Nike\, the world’s most revered sports brand. The exhibition will explore the company’s five-decade ascent from a grassroots start-up to a global phenomenon. The focus is on Nike’s design history: from the company’s beginnings in the 1960s and the design of its famous »swoosh« logo\, to iconic products such as Air Max and Flyknit\, and current research devoted to future materials and sustainability. Following the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games in Paris as well as the European Football Championship in Germany\, the exhibition will emphasize the importance of sports for design innovation and social change\, while also shedding light on the almost mythical devotion to sneakers and sportswear in popular culture and social media. The exhibition has been initiated and produced by the Vitra Design Museum and curated by Glenn Adamson.
