This year, the Industrial Design Department (SCID) of Shih Chien University, in collaboration with the Taipei Representative Office in Italy, Milan Office established last October, will host the “ONE KM² CLUSTER IN TAIPEI” exhibition during Milan Design Week. The exhibition aims to showcase the exquisite craftsmanship resulting from the integration of Taipei’s traditional manufacturing and material procurement clusters with modern design by young Taiwanese designers. The exhibition will take place from April 15th to April 20th at the lobby of the Taipei Representative Office in Italy, Milan Office.

Milan Design Week is the world’s largest design event, consisting of Salone del Mobile held at Rho Fiera and FuoriSalone held in the city center of Milan. It attracts over 2,000 brands worldwide every April and surpassed 400,000 visitors last year. Shih Chien University Industrial Design Department was the only Taiwanese educational institution invited to exhibit at Salone del Mobile in 2023. This year, the theme of “ONE KM² CLUSTER” introduces Taipei’s old manufacturing centers, exploring the possibilities of traditional industries through design, and creating 20 unique works. Highlights of the exhibition include metal decorations experimented with hydraulic presses, innovative reassembly of hardware components, and PU foam furniture inspired by cake frosting, showcasing the beauty of merging traditional industrial materials with modern creativity.

Taipei Representative Office in Italy, Milan Office dedicated to promoting exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the 8 administrative regions in Northern Italy in the fields of economy, technology, culture, academia, and arts. Taipei Representative Office in Italy, Milan Office expressed anticipation that this collaborative exhibition with Shih Chien University’s Industrial Design Department will bring more international attention and honor to Taiwan, showcasing Taiwan’s strong industrial design power to the world. It also plans to continue collaborating with different entities to not only showcase “Made in Taiwan” but also promote “Design in Taiwan,” building more industrial and cultural connections between Taiwan and Europe.
