Montreal (Canada) – The 2015–2017 Board of Directors of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) met for the second time in Montreal from 30–31 January 2016. They focused on developing a strategic plan for the term that addresses member engagement and priorities for a global design agenda.
While in Montreal, the international Board met with the local design community at a reception hosted by ALTO Design, Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), and the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers (ACID).
During the reception, board President Mugendi M’Rithaa thanked Montreal International for so graciously hosting the world body of industrial design’s Secretariat for the past 10 years and for renewing its lease until May 2018. Montreal International is a non-profit organization created as a private-public partnership whose mission is to contribute to the economic development of Greater Montreal. The Montreal International grant to Icsid is funded by the Government of Canada, the Government of Quebec, and the City of Montreal.
Icsid President M’Rithaa also welcomed the opportunity to work with the wider design community and like-minded organizations to champion the role of design as a catalyst for positive change.
As part of its strategic plan, Icsid has hired a Montreal-based team of designers and branding specialists, Studio Feed, to develop its new global brand and visual identity as the World Design Organization and looks forward to launching its new brand later this year.
