With the WIDD FRM, we want to explore the role of industrial design here and now. Can a specifically German tradition in the sense of the Werkbund, Bauhaus, and HfG Ulm still be effective in the present, or does this—as often in the past—rather reflect the wishful thinking of designers?

What is expected of design beyond mere styling? What role do we as designers have, and what role do we want to play? How can we fulfill this role? What constitutes a good product today, and what requirements must a truly sustainable product meet?

We will explore these and other aspects together with experts from practice and research.
