Taipei (Taiwan, Chinese Taipei) – The city of Taipei is preparing to welcome the New Year as World Design Capital® (WDC) 2016. Icsid and government representatives, design enthusiasts and the general public will come together to celebrate and recognise Taipei’s accomplishments as a city using design to improve social, cultural and economic life.
Built into Taipei’s world-famous New Year’s Eve celebrations, the New Year’s Eve of Design WDC Signature Event festivities kick off at 23:00 in Citizen’s Square. The stage show will feature live performances by local and international artists, complemented by lighting and audio-visual effects created by a multidisciplinary design team combining graphic design, industrial design and visual communication design.
The night’s programme will also include remarks by prominent officials, and will culminate in a fireworks display incorporating the iconic Taipei 101 building, the focus of world attention every New Year’s Eve.
Taipei’s New Year’s Eve of Design marks the official launch of 12 months of design-related events and activities in the city. Under the theme “Adaptive City – Design in Motion”, Taipei seeks to better understand how to apply innovative design to overcome the constraints created by limited resources, and will leverage the WDC designation as it pursues continual renewal and change in urban governance, and a better quality of life for its citizens.
