Moroccan designer Hicham Lahlou recently announced the establishment of the Africa Design Academy, the first network of design academies in Africa. The academy, which recently became a WDO Educational Member, was first announced in May 2014 at the New York Forum Africa in Libreville (Gabon) during which Lahlou was a guest and speaker.

The ambitious pan-African and international project will be developed in partnership with various European countries and emerging regions like Latin America. Supporting a framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the school will collaborate alongside public authorities as well as other global institutions.

The Africa Design Academy will deliver a diploma recognized by the national and international academic system, which will enable the establishment of double-diplomas with foreign academic partners. These include prestigious universities, schools and academies in Europe and across Africa.

Currently, the project is supported by Politecnico Di Milano and partnerships have been signed with École de Design de Saint Étienne in France and IED in Italy.
