Montreal (Canada) – Icsid is pleased to welcome a new Associate Member to the network. Welingkar Institute of Management, based in Mumbai, India, ranks among the top Business Schools in South Asia.

Founded in 1977, Welingkar Institute of Management provides students with learning opportunities that expand beyond the classrooms and which have been acknowledged for constantly adding new and effective learning methods that include soft skills apart from technical and domain knowledge.

The Institute provides a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Business Design) recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) two year Full time Masters level program, which combines the conceptual knowledge about various subjects related to Innovation, Creativity and Design Management with those of advanced business skills in order to create a breed of future managers who have a unique blend of management competencies and design thinking.

“At Welingkar, we are more than convinced about the need for radical change in the Management education,” states the Institute’s Director, Dr. Uday Salunkhe. “The existing compartmentalised approach to Management education has inherent limitations to be able to walk hand-in-hand with the fast changing global business scenario. Today’s technological civilisation needs rapid and radical changes to tackle issues.”

Welingkar has developed strong international relations with several renowned universities around the globe to promote a global working relationship among the student community and to expose them to international business practices. The Fox School of Business (United States), Hamamatsu University (Japan), CASS Graduate School Of International Management (Belgium), Nottingham Trent University (UK) and Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University (UK) are just some of these partners.

“The membership to Icsid will provide us with the platform to be in touch with global members of design fraternity,” remarked Dr. Salunkhe. “It will give us the opportunity to network with international institutes, corporations, etc. It will help us to update our knowledge and to understand the latest trends internationally.”

Upon welcoming this new member, Icsid Secretary General Dilki de Silva stated, “Associate membership represents an important pillar for the organisation. These members bring significant and unique abilities to strengthen our collective mandate. Icsid works to harness member expertise – to generate sustainable, market-based solutions to benefit the entire network of members. By actively participating in Icsid events and activities all members benefit from Icsid’s efforts to identify and stimulate the development of relevant strategies to support members progress in their missions.”
