In the lead up to 29 June, WDO encouraged designers from around the world to celebrate World Industrial Design Day by embracing the power of emotion in design. Daily polls were shared across the organization’s social media platforms to explore the community’s feelings across a range of topics.

Objects of emotion

Country: Australia

Hosted by IDX SYD, in collaboration with Good Design Australia, Objects of Emotions members of Sydney’s design community came together to celebrate WIDD through an exhibition curating objects that made them emotional.

QUT World Industrial Design Day 2024 Panel Discussion

Country: Australia

Alongside industry experts, Queensland University of Technology hosted a panel discussion exploring this year’s World Industrial Design Day theme. Topics included: designing for emotional experiences, thinking about emotional intelligence as a key aspect of a designers attribute and how to better understand user emotions through research.

The Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario (ACIDO) celebrated World Industrial Design Day at an event in Toronto that gathered local designers and creatives for an evening of networking, discussion and stories under the banner of let’s get emotional.

World Industrial Design Day with Werkbund

On 26 June, Deutscher Werkbund Hessen and Denzinger Gestaltung, in collaboration with World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 organized Shifting Paradigms? Design in Motion at Frankfurt’s Museum Angewandte Kunst. The event featured presentations exploring the relevance, values and roles of design in the world today.

Exploring the Future at Invent India

Olat x Young Designers Circle

To mark World Industrial Design Day, Olat Design Consultancy founder Seun Olatunji provided a 60-minute webinar exclusively for participants of WDO’s Young Designers Circle, highlighting practical examples of how designers can use emotions to enhance their design thinking process.

Student Workshop

Organized by WDO Members International Balkan University, Chitkara University and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool,  this online student workshop featured a keynote from designer Alex Muspratt-Williams, followed by a discussion about the correlation between design and emotions.

Tehran University Industrial Design Scientific Association and University of Art Industrial Design Scientific Association hosted an event dedicated to World Industrial Design Day that featured lectures, short talks and exhibitions focused on the topic of emotional design.

IBU Panel Discussion
