From 13 to 16 August 2026, the four-day Module Festival will feature concerts, DJ sets, talks and a wide range of workshops. The open-air festival is one of the signature events developed and organised by World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 and is aimed at both music enthusiasts and families.
The line-up brings together established international artists from various musical genres – including synthesiser pioneer Suzanne Ciani and DJs such as Roza Terenzi, Skee Mask and Bibi Seck. Alongside the evening highlights on the main stage, the festival offers a daytime programme of talks (including a discussion with Missy Magazine) and workshops – ranging from live coding in collaboration with the NODE Forum for Digital Arts, to furniture-making with studio formagora and ada_kantine, and guided tours of the Schirn Kunsthalle. The four-day experience is rounded off by curated afternoon sessions by online radio station Refuge Worldwide and Off-Module parties in Frankfurt clubs such as Robert Johnson, Tokonoma Club and 2og:dondorf & Spirax.
At the Module Festival, music, live visuals and discussions on pop culture topics intersect to explore contemporary social issues in an immersive way. The Kulturcampus Frankfurt – a space undergoing transformation, where locals and initiatives are working together to create a new urban neighbourhood – provides the perfect setting. Admission is free, ensuring the festival is open and accessible to all, and encouraging broad social participation. Registration is required for certain programme items.
Not far from the Kulturcampus, on Carlo-Schmidt-Platz, the temporary green installation CARLO awaits festival-goers: platforms and hammocks beneath a 140- square-metre leafy canopy offer the chance to relax in the shade.
The music programme: international pioneers & club icons
The musical line-up combines live concerts across various genres (starting at 8.00 pm each night) with electronic club sounds on the main stage (starting at 9.00 pm each night):
- Thursday, 13 August: Five-time Grammy-nominated synthesiser pioneer Suzanne Ciani opens the festival with her legendary modular Buchla sounds. She will be followed by upsammy, with her genrespanning electronic rhythms inspired by nature and technology.
- Friday, 14 August: Musician Rosa Anschütz blends the sombre atmosphere of post-punk and cold wave with ethereal melodies. Afterwards, Skee Mask, one of the most sought-after producers on the electronic scene, will take to the decks with his deep, energetic beats.
- Saturday, 15 August: Irish musician Maria Somerville and her live band will transport the audience into hypnotic dreamscapes of dream-pop, ambient drones and contemporary folk. The following evening belongs to Belgian self-made icon Bibi Seck and her high-energy, celebratory DJ set.
- Sunday, 16 August: The Cologne-based band GRENZKONTROLLE brings political post-punk and cultural collage to the stage, bringing its message vividly to life. The festival will draw to a fitting close with celebrated DJ Roza Terenzi behind the decks.
For anyone keen to carry on afterwards, the Off-Module Parties – in collaboration with 2og:dondorf & Spirax (13 August), the legendary Robert Johnson (14 August) and the Tokonoma Club (15 August) – will provide the perfect club nights.
Discussions, talks & afternoon sessions
The daily panels and talks are curated by a variety of voices from the design and media communities: Dash Press, Felix Kosok & Heart Directors Club, Missy Magazine and Nina Sieverding will lead discussions centered on democratic culture. The Refuge Worldwide online radio stage will provide the perfect soundtrack with Afternoon Sessions curated by aaron, cmjk, Febi and ZSZS.
Extensive workshop programme
Every day, the festival invites visitors to get involved and get creative:
- LegoBaustelle (daily, 2.00 pm-7.00 pm, venue: Kulturcampus): just pop in and start building. Suitable for all ages, no booking required.
- LED Wall Live Coding Workshop (13 & 14 August, 2.00 pm-7.00 pm): In collaboration with the NODE Forum for Digital Arts, participants will learn creative coding with p5.js to create content for a collective, interactive LED video wall on the festival site. (Please bring your own laptop; advance registration required).
- A Billboard Alphabet: Print workshop (13-15 August, 2.00 pm-7.00 pm, venue: Kulturcampus): Together with Lukas Marstaller, a temporary graphic design studio will be set up where experiences are translated into a collaborative typeface and shared live on a large billboard. (Max. 15 participants, advance registration required).
- Furniture-making for a spirit of solidarity (Friday, 14 August, 2.00-7.00 pm, venue: ada_kantine, Mertonstraße 30): Together with studio formagora and the ada_kantine, new, ergonomic furniture will be designed and built from recycled materials for the canteen’s guests (drop-in session, no registration required).
- back2back: Stool-building workshop (15 & 16 August, 2.00-7.00 pm, venue: Senckenberganlage 31): The FRAUENBAUEN* project teaches basic craft skills to people aged 13 and over with no prior experience. At the end, everyone takes home a stool they have made themselves. (Free; no registration required).
- DIY Station: Keyring workshop (Sunday, 16 August, 2.00 pm-7.00 pm, venue: Senckenberganlage 31): Upcycling right on the spot – the iconic, used lorry tarpaulins from FREITAG are transformed into personalised keyrings. (No registration required.)
Collaboration with Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (Gabriel-Riesser-Weg 3)
- MINIMAKE! The Creative Workshop (Sat 15 August, 2.00-4.00 pm): An inclusive, open-access programme by MINISCHIRN for children from nursery age upwards and their accompanying adults, combining analogue and digital design. (Tickets via the Schirn online shop.)
- Children’s tour & robot-building workshop for the exhibition ‘The World Through AI’ (Sun 16 August, 3.00-5.00 pm): An interactive tour for families, followed by a session building small robots from everyday materials (no booking required; participation with a valid ticket).
- Public guided tours of The World Through AI (Sat 15 Aug, 3.00 pm & Sun 16 Aug, 2.00 pm): One-hour introductory tours of the major summer exhibition. (Tickets available online in advance.)
