The fifth year of the Design Intelligence Award (DIA) just announced the winning projects across four categories, and the two grand prizes went to the Alibaba Cloud of China for the entry Alibaba Cloud-Industrial Digital Twin and Sony Interactive Entertainment of Japan for the entry Papercraft Creatures-Gesundroid, both of them received a hefty cash prize of 1 million RMB (about $145,000 USD). DIA Award Ceremony and series activities were held in China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, China. Seven sections: Design Online Sales Roadshow, Design Venture Capital Roadshow, Final Evaluation, Award Ceremony, Designer Party, DIA Exhibition and Academic Seminar were launched in a row, innovative design and industrial transformation activities run through the event, showing a brand-new look.
All shortlisted winning products will be exhibited at the Zhejiang Museum in Hangzhou, China from 4th December, 2020 to 20th January 2021.
DIA collected 7,369 works from 36 countries and regions in 2020 despite the pandemic situation. Applicants from 500 Fortune such as Alibaba, Honeywell, Fujitsu, Sony, JD, Baidu, Xiaomi and HIKVISION showed great enthusiasm in the award. With the participation of four newly joined countries including Costa Rica, Egypt, Iran and Bangladesh, the number of participating countries and regions has reached 60 so far in the past 5 years.
“DIA has been bearing in mind with humanity care and social responsibility since its birth. We are constantly thinking about what else can design bring to the world in addition to economic value in the wave of consumerism,” Secretary General James Wang said. He highlighted many previous DIA award-winning works had been adapted to the anti-epidemic battle since the outbreak, such as unmanned logistics, digital tools, and business automation, which played a central role in the production resumption at the beginning of 2020.DIA adopted “the 2020 DIA Design Union Program” to face the impact of the pandemic, DIA specially set up “sub-competition arena” in the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and France to organize entry collection, evaluation and DIA promotion. Benefiting from the establishment of DIA’s international networks over the years, DIA has continued to attract international design innovation talents for five consecutive years. The overseas experts directly contacted or invited from design universities, manufacturing companies, and design media reached more than 500 worldwide. Design Intelligence Award (DIA) is an international academic award in industrial design established in China. DIA is an annual award programme supported by People’s Government of Zhejiang Province and organized by China Academy of Art (CAA), one of China’s top three art schools with a nearly 100-year history.
