Indonesia once again took part in the commemoration of World Industrial Design Day (WIDD), which this year carried the international theme let’s get ethical. Held on Sunday, 29 June 2025, the celebration lasted for more than 12 hours, involved more than 15 collaborators from various backgrounds, and presented more than 13 events spread across cities and provinces, such as Bandung (West Java), South Tangerang (Banten and Jakarta), Padang Panjang (West Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java), and Yogyakarta (Central Java and Yogyakarta).

The event attracted 712 participants, comprising 583 online participants from across Indonesia and 129 offline participants who attended in person in Bandung, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta. With its national reach and diverse formats—online, offline, and hybrid—WIDD 2025 Indonesia proves that the spirit of cross-regional and cross-generational collaboration remains strong in today’s design world.

Initiated by the Alliance of Indonesia Industrial Designers (ADPII) in collaboration with the Product Design Focus (PDF) community, the celebration was designed in two main session types: Sequential Session and Parallel Session. These two series discuss current issues in the world of design, ranging from the application of ethics in everyday products, the importance of design archiving, the utilization of AI in creative studios, to the role of design in the development of MSMEs and community-based tourism.

What makes WIDD 2025 Indonesia even more interesting is the extensive involvement of educational institutions, communities, and design practitioners from various regions—such as DPD ADPII (Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java-Yogyakarta, East Java, West Sumatra), Indonesian Industrial Product Design Study Program Forum, Rupa Desain, Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Padangpanjang, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), INDDES ITB, IGDes, IOU Studio, and Politeknik Industri Furniture in Kendal. They are not only organizing the event, but also giving voice to local and contextual perspectives in understanding and implementing responsible design.

Through its campaign slogan, ‘Let’s celebrate together the World Industrial Design Day in Indonesia!’, WIDD 2025 Indonesia becomes a lively meeting space, where ideas are exchanged and collaborations grow. The theme let’s get ethical is not only an invitation to rethink design practice, but also to reshape the way we create – to be more sensitive, more responsible, and more in favor of sustainability and social justice.

WIDD 2025 Indonesia shows that design is not just about making something functional or beautiful, but also about decisions that impact people and the environment. The celebration is a reminder that big change can start with conversations and collective work, no matter how small the steps.
