Thinking Outside The Box: A manifesto for responsible production and consumption
In 2016, young designers told us that one of the ways in which industrial design can make a positive difference in the world is through sustainable design.
We were so inspired by this, that we decided to highlight the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #12, Responsible Consumption and Production, to mark the occasion of World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) in 2017. We asked industrial designers from around the world to showcase how they are designing more sustainable products.
#WIDD2017 around the world
On 29 June, World Industrial Design Day was celebrated in 34 countries in 6 regions around the world where WDO has members.
Over 100 design organizations and companies mobilized to organize and participate in WIDD activities. For more information on the events held, see the interactive map below.
Exchanging ideas
We were so inspired by all of the creative, out of the box events and activities organized internationally. Members of the design community marked the day with activities such as panel discussions, workshops, design competitions, exhibits, gallery installations, networking events and presentations.
