In the lead up to 29 June 2025, WDO encouraged designers from around the world to celebrate World Industrial Design Day by embracing the power of ethics in design. Here are some of the events that took place under the banner of our let’s get ethical theme.

In celebration of World Industrial Design Day 2025, WDO partnered with WDO Member Andreu World to host a day of digital dialogue exploring ethics in design. Highlighting diverse perspectives and practical insights from over 50 speakers, this online event was streamed live via WDO’s Youtube channel on 27 June and featured a rich mix of recorded and live sessions discussing the building blocks of ethical design.

Hosted in collaboration with WDO Members Andreu World and Fundació del Disseny de la Comunitat Valenciana live from La Harinera in Valencia, this series of panels and keynotes was featured as part of WDO’s let’s get ethical livestream on 27 June and brought together local design leaders from Valencia as well as WDO’s leadership to explore ethical practices in design.

Queensland University of Technology marked World Industrial Design Day 2025 with a research clinic for all interested Industrial Design students. The event offered insights into the basics of the why, what and how of ID Master’s and PhDs including hands-on activities while learning about the cutting-edge design projects.

Celebrating World Industrial Design Day: Let’s get ethical

Hosted by IDX SYD, in collaboration with Good Design Australia, let’s get ethical brought together members of Sydney’s design community to celebrate WIDD 2025 with a one-of-a-kind show and tell night, curating objects, images, materials, prototypes, that spoke to one of the following prompts: Power. Responsibility. Transparency. Consent. Repair. Compromise.

La Journée Mondiale du Design Industriel 2025

Members of Quebec’s design community gathered in Montreal to recognize World Industrial Design Day with an event hosted by WDO, in partnership with WDO Member Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. and Association des Designers Industriels du Québec (ADIQ).

In celebration of World Industrial Design Day 2025, WDO Member PARK hosted an exclusive masterclass exploring the evolving landscape of design leadership. Held at the offices of BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) in downtown Montreal, the session was led by Stephan Clambaneva, Managing Director at PARK USA.

To mark World Industrial Design Day 2025, Ian Chalmers, Principal at WDO Member Pivot Design published a reflection piece sharing his perspective on this year’s theme and ethical practices in design.

Is ethical design a luxury or a necessity? Hosted at WDO Member Design Innovation Institute Shanghai, this event on 27 June 2025 featured roundtable discussions from design leaders, scholars and corporate executives.

Designer’s Dilemma: The Role of Ethical Design in the 4th Industrial Revolution

On 10 June 2025, the School of Design at DIT University, hosted a thought-provoking webinar exploring how design must transcend being a driver of innovation to become a guardian of ethical, sustainable and inclusive futures especially in the age of AI. Drawing on the Indic philosophy of dharma, the discussion urged designers to act with conscience, responsibility, and foresight, balancing technological progress with human values and environmental harmony.

Design and Ethics: Challenges and Opportunities

Over 30 students from WDO Member schools Cindrebay School of Design, International Balkan University and Izmir University of Economics gathered online to hear Dr Gjoko Muratovski address this year’s let’s get ethical theme. The 90-minute workshop brought real-world examples of the importance of ethics in design. Students had the opportunity to participate in breakout rooms led by professors from the participating schools.

World Industrial Design Day Conclave

Hosted by World Design Protopolis Bengaluru, in collaboration with Association of Designers of India (ADI) Bengaluru, this conclave included discussions, debates and panels around sustainability, technology, ethics, inclusivity and justice.

Ethics is Trending, Should We Be Worried?

From suspicious green claims to AI making (and stealing) art, ethics is suddenly everywhere. But why now? And why does it feel like a pop trend? To address these questions, WDO Member RV University hosted an online discussion where sustainability, intellectual property, and artificial intelligence get put under the ethical spotlight.

Bringing to focus the vital intersection of innovation, sustainability and intellectual property rights, this event reaffirmed the transformative power of ethical, inclusive and sustainable design and highlighted how thoughtful design thinking can create meaningful, long-lasting social impact.

In celebration of World Industrial Design Day 2025, the WDO Member Indonesia Alliance of Industrial Designers (ADPII) and Product Design Focus (PDF) initiated a collaborative movement to strengthen connections between industrial designers in Indonesia. The celebration took place over 12 hours and involved more than 15 collaborators from various backgrounds and presented more than 13 events spread across cities and provinces.

WDO Member Design Center of the Philippines hosted IDx Conversations, a roundtable discussion that connected this year’s WIDD theme, let’s get ethical, with the local theme, We > Me. Bringing together design leaders and experts, the event explored how the Philippine National Design Policy can drive meaningful impact across the sector, economy, society, and culture.
