Valencia is the eighth city to be designated World Design Capital® 2022 (WDC 2022). Situated on the south-east coast of Spain, this culturally vibrant city is a major port located on the Mediterranean with a long-standing legacy of design. Valencia has become a leading example of effective and strategic use of design in public policy, which has resulted in a beneficial impact on industries, infrastructure and mobility. The city’s impressive mix of historic and modern structures, coupled and coexisting with the natural environment is best showcased in the example of the Turia Garden, one of the largest urban parks in Spain.
As Valencia builds its programme for WDC 2022, it will look to collaborate with the public and private sectors locally, regionally and nationally. The city is determined to use its unique opportunity as World Design Capital to communicate and empower citizens, within and outside traditional design disciplines, to participate in a year-long programme celebrating design and its power to improve our quality of life.
