The theme for World Industrial Design Day 2016 was Youth in Design. Youth are the leaders of tomorrow and we believe that we need to engage more fully with this important cohort of industrial designers, who represent the future of our industry.
WIDD 2016: Youth in Design not only celebrated the contributions of young industrial designers to the world, but also served as an opportunity to consult with young designers (and those who are young at heart), internationally. We explored the attitudes, values, and skills that young designers bring to the profession, identified how these can be best nurtured in the industry, and examined how youth can play a pivotal role in social and organizational change.
For the occasion, we published an Op-Ed addressing the shift in the industry with young industrial designers at the helm, called Youth and Design – A Powerful Combination.
The objectives of WIDD 2016:
- Celebrate the contributions of young designers in industrial design
- Consult with young designers in the millennial cohort
- Raise awareness of industrial design and its role in effecting positive change
WIDD 2016 took on even more meaning as we launched our new website and presented the visual identity for our new name, World Design Organization, which came into effect on 1 January 2017.
